GLORIA SACKS SILVER

Nurse, public health specialist, health promoter and researcher, Gloria is a graduate of l’Université de Montréal, where she obtained her B.Sc. in Nursing and her M.Sc. in Public Health. She spent most of her career with the Montreal General Hospital where, amongst others, she occupied the position of Coordinator – Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program and Assistant Director and Director of the Department of Community Health. After the creation of the Public Health Directorate of Montreal, she held the position of Chief of the Physical Health Unit (Chronic Disease Prevention) for a period of eight years. She then joined the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Québec (HSFQ) as Director of Health Promotion and Research, a position she occupied until her retirement in December of 2008.


She is an active member of several associations, including the Canadian and American Public Health Associations, the Canadian Hypertension Society and the American Heart Association. Gloria is also a long time Heart and Stroke Foundation volunteer, as she served on the Board of Directors of HSFQ from 1992 to 1996, chaired the Health Promotion Committee in 1993 and co-chaired the Quebec Forum for Cardiovascular Health Professionals.
